“The work conceived by Eva Frapiccini is the result of a participatory project that involved historical archives and study centres on the mafias, family members of victims, schools and libraries in Palermo and the rest of Italy, in a path of research on the figures that characterised the fight against the mafia between the 1970s and 1990s.
The approach chosen by the artist focuses on creating a visual and physical relationship between those who enjoy the work and the indepth theme: the thought and action of the Anti-mafia movement. The handwritten trace on documents used in the work by magistrates, journalists, trade unionists, police inspectors or ordinary citizens who have spent their lives fighting the mafia is the imprint that acts as a physical presence and is proof of the daily commitment. Through photographic documentation, the project highlights ordinary instruments such as memos, speeches, registers and notes, collected and kept in numerous private archives.
The visual documentation work was conducted with attention to the perspective of the end users, representing the various subjects photographed in their original sizes. The photographic representation is therefore an ever-changing archive, accessible and available, which invites the public to delve into the daily routine of individual human events for understanding their motivations and purposes.”
