Fortepiano | Soundtrack under Tahrir Square is an installation combining 30 self-portraits taken daily from a terrace in Cairo during the 2012 demonstrations, accompanied by recordings of the sounds coming from the streets below.
The work reflects on fear, isolation and the boundaries between private and public space, while connecting an intimate experience with a collective historical event. Created in 2016, four years after the demonstrations, it uses the distance of time to reconsider how political events are experienced personally and collectively.
